Christ said, "I have come to serve not be served." This is an important lesson to us as Christians, to know that Service is such a core value to our religion. If you are looking for a way to help others while sharing your faith and growing as a community of Christians, please look at the helping out at the Newman Center. We are always looking for volunteers to help with the many ministries that we perform to keep everything running smoothly and making this the Newman Center a place that people of all faiths can enjoy.
The Wayne State Catholic Newman Center is a great place and what helps to make it so great is the assistance of students like you who generously help out. We'd like to invite you to join our fantastic team of helpers and be a part of what makes the Wayne State Catholic Newman Center so special! The following are the areas of service we need volunteers for.
Our hospitality ministry is essential to the weekly operations of the Newman. As part of the hospitality committee, you can help create menus, go shopping, and prepare the food for Sunday Dinner, and even if you are not much of a cook, you can always help load the dishwasher after dinner. Another way you can serve is by being part of our welcoming committee and just sharing the joy of Christ as students, faculty, staff, and guests join us at the Newman for Sunday Mass.
Meal Prep Team
Each Sunday we offer a delicious home cooked meal after the 5 PM Mass. We are always looking to add new teams to prepare this meal. We do preparations during the week so on Sunday we can put all of our food together and cook it! Does preparing food for others give you life? Sign up today!

After meal clean-up
Once the delicious meal is over, there are lots of dishes that need cleaning. Show your appreciation for the free and tasty meal you just enjoyed by helping to clean some of the dishes.
Like to shop and spend other people's money? We've got just the thing! We're always looking for some people with a car and a credit card to make weekly grocery runs - we'll pay you back, honest!
Would you like to be part of our team that makes our liturgical celebrations so special? Check out all the different ways to help out below. Oh, and by the way, in order to serve as a lector, altar server or Eucharistic minister you must be a practicing* Catholic.
We could use competent lectors who can boldly proclaim the Word of God durnig our weekday and Sunday Masses. Sign up now!
Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers)
Being an extra ordinary minister of Holy Communion is a very special ministry. You are distributing the actual Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus to people during Holy Communion.
As an usher, you would hand people a song book as they entered the chapel and help them find a seat.
Being in the choir about is more than just singing, it is a way to worship God with music
Assisting during Mass is a great privilege and a valuable help to the priest.
Making people feel welcomed is a very important part of who we are at the Newman Catholic Center. We're always on the lookout for friendly people to welcome folks as they come in to our chapel for Sunday Mass. Sign up now!
